Is homeopathy slow-acting?

It is a myth that homeopathy is slow. You can expect your condition to improve in proportion to its duration and severity. For example, if you take homeopathy for a cough and cold that you’ve had for two days, the medicines prescribed are acute and fast-acting, which will relieve your symptoms in a few hours or days. Similarly, if you take homeopathy for a fever, you do not have to wait for days or months. If the correct medicine is prescribed, the fever should start subsiding within a few hours.

For chronic conditions, it will definitely take time for your ailment to fully resolve. However, if the medicine is the right one, you should start noticing a difference, and the effects of the medicine can be observed within 2-4 weeks, depending on the individual case. In chronic cases, the response also depends on the severity of the condition, the depth of the pathology, the patient’s immunity, the body’s response, and any other medication the patient may be taking.

Is homeopathy safe to use?

Yes, definitely. It is a system of medicine based on firm principles, and the medicines are made from natural sources, with no adverse effects if used correctly according to homeopathic principles. Medicine should always be taken under the guidance of a registered homeopathic practitioner. It is not advisable to take homeopathic medicines over the counter or without consulting a practitioner. If anything is taken for a prolonged period—be it homeopathy or any other medicine—and your body does not need it, there may be adverse effects, as you are taking something your body might not require.

Is homeopathy based on scientific principles?

Recently, research conducted by Dr. Jayesh Bellare from the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, has shown that homeopathic dilutions retain evidence of the starting material, even at high dilutions of 1000C. One of the key criticisms of homeopathy is that the quantity of the medicine is not measurable. However, I would argue that it’s not that the medicine dose is infinitesimal, but rather that it is beyond the testing capabilities of today’s physics.
